For the record, I’m going back to an iPhone with the home button the next time I upgrade. The Face ID is fine and it works, but I want the home button back.
If the new phones that come out have OLED displays like the current iPhone X, then they will likely have the same or better brightness.
Consider getting a dedicated “drone phone” so you don’t receive calls and/or texts while flying.
