So was the event where he bobbled the hand landing and lost the drone off the cliff! 
No problem for those guys, the tech standing by the car at the beginning of the route just hands him another one!
Still, the backpack is pretty cool for climbers. I have a cardboard box that works for me.

Umm , So 50 cm (ish) above your open hand and then sc3 uppity/down 'physical' land button. Not sticks or screen ...
I have big hands, and have tested hand landings a lot. It is a 50/50 chance of it landing with out slipping off your hand. I have done many tests at ground level so I don't damage my Anafi. Its a hit or miss landing. When hanging from a cliff I really don't think I would put my trust into it landing in my hand.
To be fair to them all my hand landings look the same as theirs.
I don't leave 50cm, I just start the landing process first, let the Anafi start land movement then I put my hand under.
And I always do it with the Anafi facing away from me, as the ultrasound transducer is right at the back.
I don't think there is any video editing tricks going as that is how it is meant to be done!!

Is now hand landing officially supported ?
All my previous attempts ended in a ‘rotation dance’ to shut the engines, but now, I did dare to keep a steady straight hand, and to my surprise, it worked ... not only once or twice...
The trick of having the Anafi facing outwards seems also to be a good idea...
