There is an interesting article on the BBC News website regarding Prince Harry getting an apology and damages from a company for taking aerial photos of his Cotswold retreat Prince Harry paid damages over photos of home .
Although the photos were taken from a helicopter and, I assume, with a very long telephoto lens, drones operators could also find themselves in the same boat if they publish photos or videos online that could be considered a infringement of privacy. There is a grovelling apology from the company concerned which mentions privicy and data claims. I do not fully understand what actual law was broken or what the limits are regarding including private homes in aerial photographs/video and privicy laws are different in other countries but it is something to be aware of.

I guess it comes down to where you are and what is a reasonable expectation of privacy in that location. I'm guessing that has changed with time given helicopters, drones, high powerd telephoto lens, etc.

It may also depend on who owns the property and how much money/influence they have!

Here in Denmark the rule is that says you must not fly closer to royal properties than 150 meters from the edge of the property's fenced gardens. By the word an fenced is also meant a hedge.

Otherwise, the normal rules for photo apply that you may not take pictures into a house or private gardens to see how people looks without their permission. But one may take a photo of a public road with the same house and people in the background if the purpose of the photograph is to show the road.

Regards, Leif.
