This is not true. A couple people have reported positive results with FPVLR and eBay lookalike circular polarized antennas. And if one orders longer antenna cables (10" may do it,12" to be sure) with the correct ends, no soldering required.

These external dual band whips are a great improvement. One has to oepn up the Skycontroller case of course but if you get new 10” or longer ipex cables to bulkhead connector, no soldering required.
