anafi antena thoughts

ok this maybe a silly thought however .....parrot recommend to avoid obstacles between the drone and the antena
surly the first obstacle is the plastic covering the anafis internal transmitter ? plastic cant transmit ?
example tv aerial, radio control systems even 2.4ghz systems are outside the tx case, dji transmitter, wifi range extender have external aerials.
has anyone ever seen the inside of a anafi controller?

Yes, it's a silly thinking because plastic usually does not dampen radio waves. You can expect things that dampen radio waves either to contain water or an electrically conductive mass such as metal or carbon fiber. Therefore, trees, houses and large metal surfaces will be stupid to have between their RC and quad if the connection is to be maintained. Or conversely, there must be free air between RC and quad for best connection.

With the above knowledge in mind, you now know where it is safe and fly without having to rely on the RTH function.

One of the best materials for blocking wifi is, appartently, chicken wire/wire mesh as the holes are the right size to block the 2.4ghz wavelength, a bit like the metal mesh inside the front of a microwave oven.
 
Solid obstacles like terrain, buildings and forests have a blocking effect besause it reflects or scatters the signal, blocking the way of the signal wave. metal grids or meshs have the property of absorving the signal converting it in electrical current, more or like a Faraday cage...

The plastic used in antenna housing is designed to have the right amount of thickness to not interact with the wave lenght of the signal, nor reflect it on the signal arriving on receptor...
