Bebop 1 Battery Hack?

Just another quick question......I have several 2500mAh 35C heli lipos. If I change the plug on the Parrot, will this display the percentage time on the ipad in flight, like the original batterys? Also I know I can ballance charge far better and safer this way....

Yes with the 2200 lipo I used it worked exactly the same. But any bigger batter hangs out the back too much. I just used the cheap 2200 as I have a few spare. You may need to make the battery lead shorter to get it to fit well

What sort of flight times do you get with them? I am now going to use 2200 11.1v 30c 3S…..as that’s what I have for my heli. Hoping for 8 to 10 mins???
 
what does xt-60 improve ?
This means I can now use 2200 11.1v 30c batteries rather than the stock ones. Also these batteries can be balance charged and more robust than the Parrot ones (my Parrot batteries lasted a year????) I am sure that it's the balance charge that doesn't happen on the standard charger that's the issue.....and Parrot batteries from eBay.

One battery has given over 10min fight with 30% left on it....so possibly 12~14min flight time. This also means longer battery life, as not running to the limits.

Im going to be honest and say, the mod went as expected, BUT I managed to stop the camera working, and while sorting that I now have the flashing green light, and no connection.

I will be doing this mod with my blue Bebop 1, and am sure it'll be fine.

I have changed the battery type......non standard, hence changing the connection. The standard "Parrot" connection is only used on Parrot and nothing else, so keeping original is a waste (you can't buy the connections, and I can now fully ballance charge and fly past any standard supplied battery.

ALSO I can monitor all three cells under charging (via the little white connection) and know exactly what to expect, rather than original "lets hope it's ballanced and charged"....the photos might help

Very brief update..... using the 2,200 11v 20/30C, did a hover around the back garden flight with some quite strong gust's and got 8min 3sec flight with 20% left to download the footage. I'm sure in normal conditions would get 9min.

A very slight back drift due to length, but COULD cut a small slot for the connector to bring the battery a little further forward, but it's fine as is really.

Hi Gents.
Im newbie here on the forum so hello :)
After reading whole internet I have decided to give a try with 2200mah 3sp1 lipo batteries, but with shortest verion I could get. My choise was gens ace soaring mini.
The result is:
Weight +36grams so whole drone is now 9% heavier.
Flight time on Video mode with just phone ( no skycontroller 1 used) 11min 17s to 4% batt left.

After connecting battery to charger (flyrc S65) it shows 25% capacity left.

I have an idea how to increase flight time on bebop 1.
We have to reprogram "ESC" with cut off voltage at 3,25V per cell so 9,75 V. Now this voltage is approx 11,1V, so its very on safe side to not to overdischarge the battery.
I have read that under 3,5V per cell capacity drops rapidly but I havent noticed that using 4WD rc cars where ESC allows to discharge lipo battery to 3,25V per cell. There is no sign car is driving slower before ESC stops it.

I have read bebop 1 hacking guide but ther was nothing about voltage change or discharge curve or whatever.
May be someone here can help/ have a knowledge and will to do that.

I have it in guide version 1.7.2, it is missing in version 1.6

P.S. Do you have any info on how to reprogram the ESC on Bebop 1?

It seems this battery drain voltage table refers to bebop 2 with LIHV battery. I suppose bebop 1 table can be adjusted same way, with lowest usable voltage 3,5V per cell so 10,50V total under load.
Ill buy auxilary tiny voltometer for lipo packs this week to check voltage value when hovering with battery at 5%.
Regarding programming etc I have no know how, so I can only " brick" my bebop 1...
I have one more point- my bebop is new old stock, so I suppose its 6+ years old. May be there is issue with thermal paste/ thermo pads betwen bebop electronics and main frame which is also an radiator. My bebop goes hot with fan working all the time, even when dowloading files via wifi.

Thanks for update. You did this on bebop2? Only one question remains - lipo life. Charging over 3,15 per cell shorten lipos life about 4 times. Discharging below 3,7 also. I was wondering how low is to low. Landing at 4% at 3,5 per cell?
 
I have bebop 2 power but I modified the software to fly with all types of batteries.
my rule:
for lipos 4.15 to 3.6 is the ideal - Bebop lowest voltage 3.3353 per cell at 0% and 4.12549 at 100%
for lihv 4.35 to 3.7 is ideal - Bebop lowest voltage 3.3967 per cell at 0% and 4.2937 at 100%
for lion 4.1 to 2.8 is ideal - Bebop not accept official this type of battery

I think parrot stretched too much in the low values, But its look like they do not overcharge

I know people that flyes lipo to 3.30 but he know that battery will last no longer than 1 year.

I will try to find my lipo curve and post it here but in the end of the day you need to choose more fly time or more lifespan for the lipos
and remember charging under 1.5C will also help your battery to last longer

You don't need to reprogram the esc to stop at 3.25 just change this line in the estimator.cfg (under common folder)

It seems I could get one or two mins of flying more lowering critical voltage. Or switch to lion and convert this table. But it seems not to be worth the effort. Unfortunately bebop 2 is double the price I've paid for bebop 1 wit sky conrtoller.

If long range flights matter for you, yes bebop 1 is a dead end. The Bebop 2 / Power or Anafi is much more designed for this goal, I bought my bebop 1 for 50 USD with Skycontroller 1 and around 120 USD for Bebop 2 power with sky controller and FPV pack here in Europe.
The Difference in flytime of the Bebop 2 is huge. With cheap Lipos can get around 30 min fly time or with some good LIhv can get the punch for a more aggressive approach... you can those all this stuff in the bebop 2 this make a big difference. Try to sell your Bebop 1 and get a bebop 2 in the future, you will not regret.

Here in Poland bebop 1 brand new old stock with sky controller 1 and 3 half dead new batts was 115 Eur. Bebop 2 in lets say good condition with sky contr 2 and vr googles you have to pay double I've paid.
So proice You paid it was a bargain!
 
Nothing wrong with the bop 1 if you have a good pre flight checklist, and you have fixed all issues on it. You have to really spend some time testing the setting combinations out before you go some distance with it.
