Bebop 2 Diy and 3rd party frames

I apologize in advance. What diy and 3rd party frames are available for the bebop 2 fpv and other versions? I am looking to rebuild the body and cross frame for more durability and future use ability. If any idea's or links are available. Then let me know and if the main electronics can be reused that is a bonus.

Update to topic: is there any quadcoptor frame that has a 250mm with 3 screw motor mounting?

Almos all 6 inch frame will fit.
Regard to the mound holes you can drill to fit your purpose but you will need longer screws

It's a hefty price tag but maybe worth it in the end, if quality and fit is convincing. I can give an update once I have received the item and put it on my Bebop.

Hi Viking.

you are right, I have to keep my promise! So yes, I got it but haven't put it on my Bebop so far. But here is part 1 of the story:

When it arrived, there was initially huge disappointment. The frame did not look nowhere near as shiny as on the pics of the advertisement. It is also not carbon fiber, but very sturdy 3D print material. What I should probably also mention is: I have a history in buying 3rd party Bebop frames of ebay - and all of them where disappointing. Pretty much all of them where 3D printed in a horrible quality, with inadequate material and so I send all of them back ...

Before I was going to do the same with this one, I contacted the seller, who advertises himself as a german engineering company (german engineering once had a good reputation). I talked with him a bit, told him my complaints and he told me the history of the making of Bebop frames, that he once started with doing them in carbon fiber, but they were too expensive so nobody bought them so he switched to 3D print them out of assorted materials to guarantee stiffness and durability.

While talking to this guy I realized that apparently a lot of thinking, trial and error and refinement went into the frame, it was unlike all the others I got of ebay, even though it looked like coming straight out of the 3D printer.

And this was one of my biggest complaints, I expected a nice, shiny surface like on the pics, but found the typical rough surface of a 3D printed piece. The guy then offered to take it back, sand and polish it for me, put on some clear coat and send it back to me in order to ensure full customer satisfaction. That offer changed my mind, and I decided to keep the frame, as the conversation created enough trust into this guy and his product. I told him its okay and I will go and sand it myself, eventually putting some clear coat on it to have the shiny surface I always wanted.

Attached are some pics of the frame and its surface, tomorrow is a bank holiday so I will try and put the frame on my spare Bebop, so stay tuned!

Thanks much for going into detail regarding this - I was very curious to hear about this frame and your experience w/it.

I kind of like the idea of a custom frame although I am skeptical of the weight savings between an OEM frame, a carbon fiber frame (do they actually exist), and a 3d printed frame.. The tolerances on 3d printed frames also look inconsistent, it's a shame because the tech *should* be mature enough to keep tolerances tight.

(For me) I'd take a $30 OEM frame all day long over every single 3d printed frame I've seen. The only reason to print a 3d frame in my opinion is to modify it to have attachment points, maybe side-saddles mid-body so you can mount an accessory or a Raspberry Pi Zero, or lights, or an additional low-light IP camera. It would be a slightly bigger frame than OEM but modular capabilities would be hot sh*t. Maybe someday...

You are absolutely right, @flyingblind ! I am also pretty sure that in probably 2-3 years 3D scanning and printing will be precise enough to just "clone" pieces without any major or additional post processing.

For the weight saving, well - with this particular frame there is none, its actually 10gr heavier (see attachments). As I had some time today, I mounted the frame to my spare Bebop2 and gave it a go. Still I have to admit, it is the best 3D printed frame I have seen so far (and I have seen many), but still requires additional work to make it come close to the OEM part. If I could get an OEM frame, I wouldn't even bother about 3D printed parts. But you can't get them anymore here in Europe. And 2nd hand they are usually twice as much as an okay used Bebop2, ready to fly. So buying just that doesn't make any sense.

Looking at the photos you provided, there is a lot of work required to make an accurate 3D model of the frame - so a big 'thank you' to the guy who made it. As you mentioned, though, there is a lot of difference between a commercially made injection-moulded frame and one from a 3D printer.

Given how hard it is to find a genuine frame now, I suspect that 10g of extra weight is a small price to pay for keeping our drones in the air.

Indeed, there is still some post processing need, especially around the areas where the motors are mounted but I will go the extra mile and do that, because I like the overall quality and the frame is very sturdy, but still has enough flex to soften landings. My plan is to build a battery based on 3 21700 cells (which somebody here on the forum already did), and the frame is definitely capable of handling the extra weight.

Next steps are dremmeling the motor mount areas, sanding the arms and the central section, and then maybe spraypaint it black and put some clear coat on.
