Update: it turns out that what I thought was a stripped screw was actually the screw hole for the GPS plastic cover!

No matter what I do, I cannot push the arm hinge out. I have tapped, pushed, lightly hammered it... it simply won't budge. Any ideas? I have made sure that the screws on the white end and the washer end on the other side have been removed.

You have to fold the arms in to release the pressure on the pin. Drive it out with a tool against the pin on the washer end.
