I recently purchased my first Drone. A Parrot Bebop 2. My brother has had a drone for awhile and recently he used it on an ATV ride to film an abandoned railroad bridge and some other neat things. I have only had this out twice so far learning how to fly it the right way to avoid crashing. Aside from having some fun with this I see this can be helpful for filming abandoned railroad stuff where I cannot physically get to (such as bridges that are not good to cross)

I already downloaded the flight data manager to be able to extract the GPS data from the drone and this is a very useful tool since I use a GPS device and mapping software.

I post my findings on my website: Abandoned Railroads of NEPA

This video is my brother's drone (also a Bebop 2) of an abandoned railroad bridge.

Welcome to the Forum. I think you will enjoy your membership. There are many other members happy to provide assistance for any issues you may have, and those that may need information you bring. A lot of good information is already stored in existing threads.

Couple easy things:
1.) The search Icon is your friend. It's the magnifying glass near the upper right of the screen when you scroll all the way up. It can find many answers you will never find by yourself.
2.) Be aware that you won't always get a quick response. There are times when many other members are on line, and sometimes only a few. A response may not show up until the right person sees it.
3.) Be aware the forum is Global. If you are exchanging with a member on the other side of the world, response can get delayed and out of sequence due to a difference in local time.
4.) Although the Forum is global, the language is English. It is customary to translate other languages to English. Many members also include the original language post to help alleviate translation errors.
5.) Review the forum rules (on the bottom right). There are not too many, but it is important they are followed to keep the Forum a useful and happy place for everyone.

I have only flown a few times so far. It seems like whenever I have a day off from work it is either raining or windy  I have been using my phone attached to the skycontroller 2 (LG V30) and it seems to work well. One small flight I just used the phone. The only thing I am concerned with is if I am flying and a call or notification comes in would it break the communication? I did once get a call while flying but I did not have the drone far, as I am still practicing. I put the phone on speaker and was able to keep flying.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Juno Pro, its a Tracphone that was never activated, it has Android 6 on it. Could this be used? I did try it with a very short flight in my backyard and it seemed to be ok. I just need to know what issues I should look for to determine if the device is good to use or not? It does not have mobile network since it is not activated, but since other have used tablets, it would seem not to be needed.

Are there features in the device I want to use I need to look for? such as GPS sensors? My LG V30 has good sensors on it since I use other mapping programs. I also do have a tablet, a Samsung Galaxy Tab A which also has good GPS sensors but its too large for this purpose (10 inch tablet)

I also saw the video of modifying the USB cable to prevent the controller from charging the device battery. I assume this would apply to the skycontroller 2?

You can always put your phone in Airplane mode which Parrot suggests for all flights. They say it also gives you better range.
