I can take off the lens cap and turn on the power. If I use a filter, I have to turn it on and use the filter. This is an unnecessary inconvenience.

You need to read the manual. Parrot recommends putting a ND filter on after start up as not all Anafi gimbals can calibrated with a filter. Some do and some don't.
