I'm talking about the circle on the freeflight screen that displays location of drone & controller. It makes no sense to me, & yet the similar graphic that Autel Robotics uses makes total sense. Thanks for any help.

I think you mean the little circle on the lower right? I believe it shows by GPS where the controller is and where the drone is on a mini map. If the controller is pointed away from the drone you get a red spread signifying the wifi signal. When you point the controller at the drone it turns green. So the idea is to have the controller always pointed at the drone for best wifi signal. If you touch the circle it opens to a map view and the camera view from the drone minimizes to a small rectangle.
