So like some of the owners here....I too finally got the "vertical camera failure" error but unlike some.....I was still able to take videos and pictures but my zoom function was not working. I tried resetting the drone twice with no dice, I removed the app and reinstalled....and voila!! It's working again. I'm not sure if this has already discussed but - not trying to beat the dead horse. 
BTW....a couple of pics from the frozen wasteland...in my backyard lol. Couldn't zoom in so I had to come really close........25 degrees without windchill and with 30% battery life may have contributed to the error but I'm not sure.
