Skycontroller 3 magnetometer purpose

Does anyone happen to know the purpose of magnetometer in the skycontroller 3? I tried to look information but was not so succesful finding anyting. Freeflight requires it to be calibrated too, but its not like I could control anafi by twisting/shaking the controller or anything.. just wondering

I believe it's for determining which direction the controller faces to.
If you have a poor connection to the drone during flight and you're not pointing the controller towards the drone then you'll get a popup on the screen which says turn the controller towards the drone, and if you're not sure where is it exactly, you can see a pretty accurate information on the map, which direction you're facing.
