You can if you want but it will just land right where it is. It needs RTH first before it will land on the Pad.
I was under the impression, and I'm a newbie, was I only hit the LAND button when it was close to the ground, like 3 feet close? But you're saying once you hit RTH and it come's back and goes into a hover at 6 - 9 feet, then hit the LAND button?
